Pyrite, commonly known as “fool’s gold,” has been a source of confusion and disappointment for miners and gold panners throughout history. However, recent research has revealed that pyrite may contain valuable elements, including lithium and gold, making it a potential treasure trove for modern industries.

In addition to lithium, pyrite has been found to contain gold, albeit in a different form than previously thought. Researchers from Curtin University in Australia have discovered that gold can be hidden in tiny defects in the pyrite’s crystal structure, known as dislocations.
