Adolescents are heavy users of digital technologies, with a significant proportion having a social media profile. The pandemic has further increased the reliance on these platforms, as physical distancing measures have limited face-to-face interactions. While digital platforms can mitigate the harmful effects of physical distancing, they also present new risks and challenges.
There is ongoing debate about the relationship between digital communication and adolescent well-being. While some studies suggest that online spaces can intensify teens’ uncertainty in social interactions, others highlight the potential benefits of these platforms. For instance, online communication has been shown to remediate negative feelings after social exclusion.
