Perseverance’s onboard instruments, such as Mastcam-Z, Navcam, and SuperCam, have been instrumental in obtaining images and data to track changes in the chemistry or appearance of the rocks as the rover traverses west through the Margin unit. This data has allowed scientists to identify unique features, such as Comet Geyser, a high-standing bedrock at the Bunsen Peak workspace, which was deemed worthy for collection as Perseverance’s 21st rock core sample.
Intriguing Rock Discovery
One of the most intriguing discoveries has been a flat piece of rock with a mushroom-shaped feature, which Perseverance found to be its favorite rock on the mission so far. This finding has sparked curiosity among scientists, who are eager to learn more about the geological processes that led to its formation.
