The Hubble Space Telescope has captured a stunning image of NGC 6684, a lenticular galaxy located approximately 44 million light-years away in the constellation Pavo. Lenticular galaxies, like NGC 6684, are intriguing celestial objects that fall between elliptical and spiral galaxies in terms of their properties. They possess a large disk, but unlike spiral galaxies, they lack the prominent spiral arms that are characteristic of galaxies such as the Andromeda Galaxy. This gives lenticular galaxies a diffuse, ghostly appearance, which is further enhanced by the absence of dark dust lanes that are typically found in other galaxies.
