A recent study published in the journal *Drug and Alcohol Dependence* has revealed that the terpene D-limonene, found in many citrus fruits and abundant in cannabis, can significantly reduce feelings of anxiety and paranoia associated with THC consumption. This discovery offers a promising avenue for enhancing the therapeutic index of THC and minimizing its adverse effects.
The study, conducted by researchers at Johns Hopkins University, assessed the influence of D-limonene on THC’s subjective effects in 20 healthy volunteers. Participants who inhaled D-limonene concurrently with THC reported “significantly reduced” feelings of anxiety and paranoia as compared to those who inhaled THC alone. The inhalation of higher quantities of D-limonene was associated with more pronounced effects.
