China has taken the lead in industrial robot deployments, installing five times more annually than Japan, according to a recent report from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR). This surge in robot installations highlights China’s commitment to building a modern industrial system and promoting new technologies, as outlined in the Chinese government’s definition of high-quality development.
In 2022, China installed 290,258 out of the 553,052 new industrial robots worldwide, accounting for more than half of the global total. This represents a significant increase from 2021, which saw a 57% jump in installations compared to the previous year. Furthermore, China’s robot installations have grown by an average of 13% per year since 2017, demonstrating a consistent upward trend.
